Windows Memory

Why fix it when it’s not broken?

Windows has recently been complaining it is running out of memory and it wants to shut down applications. From googling, this appears to be when the threshold hits 75% of memory used (3Gb in my case, as I have 4Gb). I have been running for so long now without a page file and now suddenly I need one – which slows the computer down no end.

I have not yet found the answer I want (raising the threshold value), but will post it if I see it.

My guess is it came in “Update for Windows 7” (KB2616676 or KB2570791 or KB2607712), as I have not seen the error before then.

Photo Sharing Sites

We have a dotphoto account. Used to be one of the best, but I wanted to check out how it rated now – especially as we have an iPad2 and AppleTV2 and I wanted to see how easy it was to share photos with these…

Best site I found was no1sites.

They rated top 10 as:

Blogging Reloaded

Just found out I have been doing this all wrong… For the past 8 months I have earned very little cash. However I just changed my theme to the HeatMap Adsense Theme and doubled my revenue in 1 day!? I found the theme via

The site listed the following themes as being the top ones for CTR: Heatmap reloaded, GlamoSense, Clearness, Mono Sense, Blue Sense, Ads Minded, Blix, Pro Sense, Adsense Theme, Connections. However, what confuses me is that not all of these themes appear to be available on my installation of WordPress. Right now, I do not know if that is due to WordPress or my web hoster or a combination of both. Once I have got that worked out, I might well buy the professional version of HeatMap Pro – I am that impressed.

Current configurations

Quick update on my blogging experiences so far…

TECHNOLOGY: 1) host provider: webhostinghub (found on webhostinggeeks), 2) blogging engine: wordpress, 3) the theme: LightWord by Andrei Luca

LESSONS LEARNT (I am a consultant, so only going to list the top 5 :-)):

  1. There are a lot of comments to edit (I am up to about 220 over 6 months). I need to get some kind of glyph verification to knock some of the spammers out. Very, very few of the comments (5%?) are actually real and worthwhile.
  2. Technology is very good… some problems with doing edits on my HTC Desire. Also number of comments does not show up well on the HTC Desire.
  3. Things to do: some trackbacks into my blog, sort out the adsense as it is quite naff at the moment.
  4. The amount of revenue I have earned could maybe buy me a mars bar… but that is probably due to points outlined in things to do.
  5. I am currently writing a google app… I want to use ads in that and – from what I understand – the fact that I have created an adsense id on my blog is going to help me loads… there’s a lot of problems for people out there with people who are trying to get an adsense account just for their mobile app development.

Blogging and Spammers

Hurumph. If there is one thing I don’t know how to work around it is all this spamming. A comment from one guy seems to have attracted a whole load of extra spammers, so I guess some of them use keywords. By default I don’t know approve comments unless I know the source. However it gets really hard as some of the messages seem quite genuine… of course some are complete giveaways.

Anyway, one to watch out for if you are blogging – I think best way to solve is with glyphs (where you need to recognise characters before the comment is accepted)… and apologies to anyone who’s messages I have ignored – believe me it is not deliberate.

Analytics and AdSense

I just put in my application for adsense – let’s see if it goes through and if I end up making any money. I did as recommended, ie: run the site for about 3 months before applying.

I also decided to switch on google analytics for wordpress. I’ll report back on how easy that is to use. Also, not quite sure how that compares to slimstat, a plugin for WordPress.

I am also starting to think that this neat layout might now start to be a bit boring, so I will need to look into a few more themes.
