NAS, iTunes and playlists (retro)

I want to see and update my playlists on iTunes via NAS.

First iTunes does not support standard playlist format (did I expect them to?) So an essential tool in doing this (offline) is itunesexport by Eric Daugherty

Regarding NAS devices, I have a buffalo linkstation. If I was to buy again and had a bit more cash I would go for synogy, their DS211j seems pretty good. However watch out to get recommended drives, as the drives appear to be always on. As ever I am really confused about all the different variations of the 211… I just wish companies would think of this before they name their products.
